Stagecoaches carried passengers, freight, and mail from the Bangs-McNutt Livery Stable in Eugene to Belknap Hot Springs in the upper McKenzie Valley. The stagecoaches stopped to feed, water, and change horses in Walterville, Vida, Blue River, and McKenzie Bridge. Soon hotels, restaurants, stables and general stores formed the core of the river communities. Shown here, stagecoach driver Ed Walker with his cousin Belle Sparks pose for a photograph. Other notable drivers included Earl McNutt and Orel and Percy O’Brien.
